City of Dryden sends three to AMO

The City of Dryden has a delegation of three people at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario convention in Ottawa.

AMO began on Sunday and will continue on until Wednesday.

Chief Administrative Officer Roger Nesbitt says they have set up a number of meetings with provincial cabinet ministers.

They have sessions with two ministers about the need for regular air service.

“(An)other item we want to discuss with the Ministry of Transportation and also with Northern Development is air passenger service,” Nesbitt told council recently.

“We’re asking for senior levels of government to provide Air Carrier Revenue Stability funding so we may see scheduled air service re-introduced at the Dryden Airport.”

Nesbitt says they also have a meeting with the Minister of Natural Resources about it base on Wabigoon Lake.

“This discussion has been revolving around housing development and that’s really the sole reason why we were able to get this initiative moving with the province. The province is extremely keen on seeing additional housing unit growth throughout the province, and that includes our community.”

Nesbitt says they are already in discussions about transferring half of the property over the the city, but they now looking at the other half of the property.
