JOB SUMMARY

Developmental Services supports children, youth, and their families to lead healthy and socially inclusive lives within their communities.

Under Developmental Service the Rehabilitation Assistant will work under the supervision of a qualified Speech-Language Pathologist and/or Audiologist, in accordance with the guidelines for supportive personnel as set forth by the College of Audiologist and Speech-Language Pathologist of Ontario (CASLPO).  The Rehabilitation Assistant will work with clients, caregivers and community resources to promote growth and development with our clients.  The Rehabilitation Assistant is a key part of the client’s circle of care and will work to their full scope of practice.

The Rehabilitation Assistant works under the supervision of the Speech-Language Pathologist and/ or Audiologist and is directly accountable to their Clinical Manager.

Salary Range: Annual $62,867 – $84,442 / Hourly $34.542 – $46.397 (Annual travel stipend available for this position)

Position Type:  Full-Time Term ending July 2027, with possibility of extension.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Diploma in Communication Disorders, Early Childhood Education, Health Sciences or related field is an asset
  • Communication Disorders Assistant certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a health or education services environment
  • Experience working with children who have a variety of challenges, including communication disorders and/or hearing loss
  • Professional integrity and the ability to maintain confidentiality are essential
  • Ability to work creatively with clients both individually and in group settings, in the home and school settings
  • Understanding of the Anishinaabe culture, First Nation communities and language is a definite asset
  • Demonstrates knowledge or mature experience in child development
  • Sensitivity to the need of parents/caregivers and the unique needs of each community
  • Computer literate with experience in written documentation
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Criminal Records Check
  • Valid driver’s license

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct client speech/language therapy sessions in-person and virtually
  • Follow and administer documented treatment plans with clients developed by the Speech-Language Pathologist
  • Supporting and implementing tier 1/universal programing as directed by Speech-Language Pathologist
  • Assist in conducting hearing screenings in schools and nursing stations as directed by Audiologist
  • Supporting Audiologist during complex hearing assessments
  • Providing support to families and teachers regarding children with hearing loss/hearing aids as directed by Audiologist
  • Monitor progress and report appropriately through documentation
  • Prepare resource and promotional materials for the use in therapy, home programs and classrooms
  • Work collaboratively with community-based service providers and agencies to meet identified needs and enhance delivery of care
  • Regular in-person community travel, averaging up to 8-10 days/ month
