A spokesperson for Cliffs Natural Resources is stressing that the company isn’t bluffing when announcing plans to pull out of the Ring of Fire project by the end of the fourth quarter of this year.
Pat Persico says the decision has been made but Cliffs is open to further discussions with the Provincial Government and First Nations.
Persico notes they are stopping the feasibility study, exploration and the development of the project.
She says the move will result in roughly 40 job losses.
Persico says they will attempt to relocate workers to other positions within the company.
She notes the next step is closing the Cliffs office in Thunder Bay and Toronto as well as the exploration camp in northern Ontario.
