Cliffs Suspends Ring Of Fire Project

A major blow to the Ring of Fire development in northern Ontario as one of the major players is now sitting on the sidelines.
Cliffs Natural Resources says it’s going to be suspending its chromite project indefinitely.
The company has decided not to sink any more capital into the Ring of Fire due to the uncertainty of the timeline and minimal movement on infrastructure needs to bring the project on-line.
Northern Development and Mines Minister Michael Gravelle says the government is still committed to the project and the development is about more than just one company.
Gravelle says he’s disappointed with Cliffs’ decision but notes the province must work with all partners to ensure the project moves forward properly.
Gravelle says they are prepared to invest in vital infrastructure and create the right climate to support development in the region.
He adds that the Liberals will work with key partners in the initiative.
