The Cloverbelt Local Food Co-op is calling for changes to the rules governing chicken farmers.
Eighteen members of the local organization took part in consultations with the Chicken Farmers of Ontario this past week.
Jen Springett says they want to be exempt from quota in northern Ontario and they want to produce more chickens by having the exemption raised from the current 300 birds.
Springett says they have to apply for quota in order to produce more chickens.
She stresses the current regulations impact economic opportunities for small farmers as well as food security.
