The Dryden Fire Service is reiterating the importance of proper training following the death last week of a 30-year-old Bomanville man who became trapped under the ice when training to be a fire fighter in southern Ontario.
Increasing training costs have recently caught the attention of some municipalities.
Fire Chief Ken Kurz says there’s no cost too high when it comes to protecting lives.
The Fire Service has allocated $15,000 in funding for training and travel in the yet to be approved 2015 budget.
Kurz notes Ontario has caught up to other jurisdictions in training standards and he anticipates stricter rules down the road.
