The Bear-Wise hotline run by the Ministry of Natural
Resources was a lot busier this year than last year.
The M.N.R. has released its year-end statistics and
Spokesperson Yolanta Kowalski says province wide the
hotline received over 16-thousand calls.
Kowalski notes while Northeastern Ontario saw an
increase in nusicance bears, the Northwest actually saw a

Kenora reported 161 bear occurances in 2007, which is
almost half of what the community saw in 2006.
Northeastern Ontario and the rest of the province saw
more bears, because of a lack of their natural food source.
