Classes are now cancelled at Ontario Colleges, including all regional campuses of Confederation College.
A province-wide strike is now underway.
This after contract talks between the Ontario Public Service Employees Union and the College Employer Council failed to reach a deal over the weekend for more than 12,000 college faculty across the province.
The union is blaming the Council for refusing to deal with issues around academic freedom and longer contracts for part-time faculty.
Meantime, Confederation College has said its campuses will be open, but no programming will be offered during the work stoppage.
Confederation officials stress that students will not lose out on their year, noting that’s never happened in the history of labour disputes.
The dispute will also impact distance education programming.
