On-Line Protection Focus Of Privacy Commissioner

The federal Privacy Commissioner is calling for urgent changes to restore Canadians’ confidence in the digital age.

Daniel Therrien says a large majority of Canadians are concerned about their privacy, and they’re worried they’re losing control over their personal information in the age of big data and the connectivity between smart devices and the Internet.

He says most people feel they aren’t protected.

Therrien is calling for a number of changes, including insisting businesses be more clear and up front about their privacy practices.

He is also asking for stronger enforcement powers.
