Very mixed results for the City of Dryden.
The final comments and results are in from a recent community survey.
The business community has issued a strong wake-up call.
A majority were very dissatisfied or dissatisfied with Council’s overall performance and decisions being made.
Weaknesses identified by respondents include Council and City management, finances, the cost of doing business, financial leadership, DMTS and the state of area roads, sidewalks, the downtown core and the arena.
31 businesses stated they are getting poor value for the taxes they pay.
They were pleased with most city departments, the library, quality of life and the City’s location.
98 businesses took part in the survey. (32.6% participation rate)
The resident survey painted a different picture.
Most respondents were pleased with the current situation in the community.
Residents stated Dryden is good place to raise children, work, fish, camp and retire.
They also reported a good quality of life.
On the flip side, residents were concerned about an increase in crime, the condition of streets and sidewalks, taxes and a lack of variety of shopping.
528-residents completed the survey. (8% participation rate)
Dryden Mayor Craig Nuttall says the final report won’t sit on the shelf and the concerns will be included in future planning.
Nuttall says the comments will be made available to the community.
He also stresses that Dryden is open for business and notes his door is always open.
Nuttall received positive feedback in the survey about being readily available.
He notes the Economic Development Office is also there to listen to local concerns.
