Congress Of Aboriginal Peoples Speaks Out Against Budget

The Congress of Aboriginal Peoples calls the 2015 Federal budget “disappointing”.

National Chief Betty Ann Lavallee says there wasn’t a lot in the fiscal document to help First Nations.

Lavallee says so many things could have been done to help aboriginal people but unfortunately it’s not going to.

She adds there was no new money for missing and murdered women and notes they haven’t seen new money for housing since 2006.

Lavallee is especially concerned with the lack of funding for off-reserve aboriginals

She says funding for off-reserve aboriginals over the next five years equates to less than $70 per person each year.

She says 1-million of the 1.4-million aboriginals in Canada live away from reserves.
