Questions are still being raised about protections for woodland caribou and the Endangered Species Act.
Interim Conservative leader Vic Fedeli says in recent consultations with local forest companies they heard red tape is reducing amount of wood they can take out of the Kenora Forest.
“Matt Wilkie a forester at Weyerhaeuer in Kenora told us about a third of their company’s wood supply in Kenora comes from a new caribou zone. The Cariou Protection Regulations Act will result in a 40 to 70 percent reduction in forestry activities, significantly reducing wood supply.”
Municipal Affairs Minister Bill Mauro continues to be the government’s pointman on the issue and that they recently granted a two year exemption for forest companies and the Endangered Species Act.
