After a few road blocks on site selection, construction of Dryden’s new OPP Detachment is finally underway.
The location of choice is a parcel of land by the old MTO Weigh Scales on Highway 17, on the east edge of Dryden.
Detachment Commander Chuck Wesley says preliminary work has begun.
Wesley says the facility will be modern and will include more space for officers.
The 14,250 square foot building will be state-of-the-art with 9-holding cells, a multi-purpose meeting room and a secure compound for seized vehicles.
50-jobs will be created during construction.
Construction is expected to conclude in the Spring or Summer of 2012.
Wesley says the new building is desperately needed as they have been at there current site for over 60-years.
