An 11th hour attempt to save the Dryden Youth Centre has failed.
Council has officially closed the doors on the Youth Centre by voting 4-3 in favour of the move Monday night.
Mayor Craig Nuttall says they can no longer afford to fund the facility.
Nuttall says they were promised funding but he hasn’t seen any money on the table.
He adds the Youth Centre is not a core service.
Sid Wintle stated that it’s not the City’s job to operate the Youth Centre and Ken Moss says outside groups have had six months to come forward.
Martin MacKinnon also voted for the closure of the facility.
Shayne MacKinnon made a passionate plea to save the facility prior to the vote.
He believes there’s money in the budget to keep it open until June and that will give the City time find a new operator.
MacKinnon believes the City has a role to play to help keep local youth active.
He is pleading with outside groups to step forward and help run the facility.
Dryden Rotary donated $14,000 back in June to keep the Centre open.
Brian Collins and Mary Trist also voted in favour of keeping the doors open.
