Creating A Research Center For Local Communities

The Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority wants to take research to the next level.
At the First Nations Research Gathering earlier this month, health directors and representatives from First Nations around Sioux Lookout discussed what needs to be done in the area.
Health Services Director Janet Gordon says they want to develop a center that would have a framework in how research would be done in the community, and how other First Nations and municipalities can get involved.
Gordon adds they will be looking at partnerships and the next step is to look at who wants to get involved.
The three-day event had speakers from the Meno-Ya-Win Center as well as representatives from the University of Victoria, the Northern Ontario School of Medicine and Lakehead University.
