Crime Prevention Week

This week is all about Crime Prevention and the Dryden Police will be out and about
Community Service Officer Kevin Hildebrand says the main thing they are focusing on is scams, especially ones that target seniors.
He says they will be delivering presentations at Princess Court and Patricia Gardens, going over the types of scams that have hit the region and how not to fall for them.
Other areas include crime-proofing your home or business.
Some other tips from the Dryden Police Service are:
– don’t leave keys hidden in a public place
– always be aware of your surroundings
– if you live alone, use only first initials with surname on mailboxes, directories etc.
– arrange a system so that someone you trust has a key to your home, and knows your whereabouts
– have someone pick up your newspapers/mail if you are going to be away
– insure your home and contents and store values in a safety deposit box
– don’t put your name or address on your house or vehicle keys
– always check inside and under your car before getting in, especially at night
– if you are going to be away, use automatic timers to turn lights on and off at certain times
