CUPE rallies in Dryden

Some 2 dozen Canadian Union of Public Employees members braved bitter cold Friday for a noon hour rally.
They gathered outside MPP Howard Hampton’s Dryden office to demonstrate against proposed changes to their pensions under Bill 206.
The McGuinty Government wants to bring the legislation for 3rd & final reading next week, posibly as early as Monday.
CUPE says when that happens, 100,000 members across the Province will stage a wildcat strike in opposition to it.
Locally the strike would involve mostly Custodial & Maintence staff at the Public School Board along with Seperate School Educational Assistants.
CUPE Ontario President Sid Ryan says he is willing to sit down with the Premier to negotiate & call off the strike but so far no word if a meeting has been scheduled.
