Danger Pay Cut Proposal Causes Outrage

News that the Defence Department is proposing to slash the danger pay military personnel get while serving in the world’s trouble spots didn’t go over well last night at the Vimy Ridge Day ceremony in Dryden.
Legion members expressed concern and outrage over the decision and one speaker stated the decision was likely made in a back room by someone who has never been out in the field.
That backlash has prompted the Harper government to do an about-face.
The government says it will reverse the decision.
Veterans Affairs Minister Steven Blaney says his government is not happy with the news; nor with the criticism it generated.
Blaney says the decision was “not appropriate.”
The proposed cut would’ve affected 930 soldiers on a training mission in Kabul.
They would’ve seen their monthly pay drop by $500 starting Monday.
