Chiefs Of Ontario Against Education Legislation

The Chiefs of Ontario are rallying in Thunder Bay today against the Federal Government’s proposed First Nations education legislation.
Spokesperson Gordon Peters says they want a new formula.
Peters says the proposed legislation maintains the status quo and won’t help aboriginal kids.
He notes they want to see a First Nations education system built by aboriginals.
Peters says any new deal should incorporate aboriginal language and culture based on First Nations standards and governance.
He stresses the current federal process isn’t working as only 33-35% of aboriginal students graduate.
