Red Lake Miners Coach Derek Sweet-Coulter is settled-in in Calgary as he prepares to coach Canada West at the World Junior ‘A’ Challenge.
Sweet-Coulter is acting as an assistant coach for the second straight year and selection camp is underway.
He says he can’t wait for the actual tournament on Friday.
Canada West opens play against the United States in Bonnyville, Alberta.
Sweet-Coulter says he’s excited to return and learn more, stressing you take a lot from these kind of events.
He’s also set for Canada West to defend gold, stressing it won’t be easy.
Sweet-Coulter says during camp, the coaching staff is looking for guys who compete hard, have character and play the Canadian way.
He says they want players to put aside their differences and prepare to proudly represent their country and have a team first attitude.
Keighan Gerrie is the only SIJHL player trying out for a position on the team.
