Details of the tentative agreement reached between the Liberal government and the union representing public high school teachers will be revealed to local union leaders tomorrow.
Government sources say younger high school teachers will be given a much better payout for their banked sick days under the new deal.
The sources say teachers with less than 10 years on the job will get 25 cents on every dollar for sick days they bank, compared with 10 cents under existing agreements.
Veteran teachers won’t be affected and will continue to get about 50 cents on the dollar on retirement.
Progressive Conservative critics say that’s going to cost taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars more but the government says the money will come from savings elsewhere in the contract.
