Another sports season has come to a close for the Dryden Eagles as the top athletes were honoured Monday night at the 49th Annual Awards Banquet.
Thomas Moline joined Jarett Hicks to win the Male Athlete of the Year award.
Moline and Hicks both talked about the importance of sharing the award, noting they are great friends on the football field, on the court, in the classroom and away from school.
Hicks stresses they have been through a lot together and stresses winning this trophy has been a goal of his since day one.
He says the 2016 undefeated championship football season will go down as his fondest memory.
Hicks was also named Top Offensive Player in Football.
Moline calls the achievement “awesome”, stating it has also been a main goal of his since the start of high school.
Moline and Hicks also shared the MVP award in Senior Boys Basketball, while Moline was MVP in Senior Boys Soccer.
Rhiannon Lee was a big winner at the banquet, picking up multiple awards including Female Athlete of the Year.
Lee says it’s an amazing accomplishment, noting she dedicated her time for four years towards volunteering, playing sports and putting in time with the Athletics Association.
She adds she’s overwhelmed with the honour right now, noting she invested a lot of time and energy this year.
Lee says her favourite memory was Girls Soccer OFSAA this year and winning the All-Ontario Sportsmanship award last year.
Lee also won the Most Dedicated award in Senior Girls Basketball, MVP in Senior Girls Volleyball and MVP in Girls Soccer.
Liam and Julia Jones as well as Brynn Montgomery were named Rookie of the Year.
Kadin Taylor and Amy Wickstrom were Sportsman and Sportswomen of the Year winners.
Matty McLarty received the prestigious Lions Award for his work in athletics, the classroom and in the community.
