DHS Student Participates In Healthy School Workshop

Students got the chance Tuesday to share what they believe will make their school a healthier place.

The Ontario Physical and Health Education Association hosted a Leadership session in Kenora with students from 12 area schools participating.

Payton Zilkalns is a student at Dryden High School and is the Student Trustee for the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board and she took part in the event.

Zilkalns says they concentrated on increasing school spirit and the need for more drug and bullying prevention programs.

She says another main focus was giving students more of a voice in the classroom and ensuring someone is on the other side to hear their concerns.

Zilkalns stresses the gathering was a great networking opportunity and a way to share ideas.

Beaver Brae High School was one of only four schools in Ontario hosting the Forum.
