Dryden Telephone hopes to switch from analog to digital cellular phones over the next couple of years.
City Council has approved the purchase of a new digital switch paving the way for the technology.
The City is buying the equipment from financially-troubled Nortel for about 380-thousand dollars, much less than the original price of 648-thousand.
The city will debenture the cost over five years.
Dryden Mobility currently has more than two thousand customers.
