A new school year is here and the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board is anxious to get started.
The main capital project for the public board this year will be overseeing construction plans for the new High School in Sioux Lookout, a project officials say is on schedule for a Fall 2016 opening.
Director of Education Sean Monteith says their attention will also be on the classroom and they will continue to implement recommendations on creating a more coherent structure between the board, staff and students.
Monteith notes he will be focusing on obtaining funding for special education and aboriginal programming.
He says funding for special education has taken a significant hit and he’s determined to get that money back.
