Distracted Driving Crackdown

Red Lake OPP are calling a recent distracted driving campaign a successful one.
OPP were targeting drivers who were not directing their entire attention on the road.
Police say 3-Provincial Offence Notices were issued to drivers in the Red Lake and Ear Falls areas.
This was the first of four one-week enforcement campaigns on distracted driving.
Meantime, the parents of an Ontario teen who died in a crash while texting are asking other drivers to stop messaging while behind the wheel.
Damon Souliere’s car hit a tractor trailer head-on near Mattawa on the weekend.
The 18-year-old from Pembroke had just sent a text to a friend he saw the night before.
Damon’s mother, Susanne, says text messages from friends were still coming through to his phone when emergency crews arrived at the scene.
The OPP say 35 people were killed last year because of
distracted driving and 1,000 were injured.
