Ontario now has some of the highest distracted driving penalties in the country.
The new laws are now in effect and come with a minimum $400 fine and three demerit points.
Young Drivers of Canada Spokesperson Maria Bagdonis adds distracted driving penalties now include suspensions for new drivers.
Bagdonis notes there is also a new law to protect tow truck drivers.
She says the law requires drivers to change lanes when possible and to slow down significantly while passing.
And now, drivers need to give cyclists at least one metre of room wherever possible when passing.
