Domtar Celebrating Its History In Dryden

This is the end of National Forestry Week and CKDR has spent the past couple of days talking about the history of the industry in the Dryden area.
Domtar Spokesperson Bonny Skene says they are also celebrating 100-years of pulp production in the community.
Skene says the Dryden Power and Timber Company was formed in 1910 and pulp production started in 1913.
She notes about 80% of the existing facilities at the time were replaced in the mid 80’s and 90’s and the main highlight was the installation of the recovery boiler in 2004.
Skene says another highlight is roughly 50 years of the Conservation Camp.
Students learn more about conservation, forests, air, water, soil and minerals.
Domtar is celebrating 100 years with a community picnic at Cooper Park on Saturday.
The picnic runs from 11:00-2:00 with speeches at noon.
