Domtar in Dryden is getting $2-million in federal funding for a first-of-its-kind forest innovation project.
Natural Resources and FedNor Minister Greg Rickford says the investment will help the company develop and commercialize new premium grades of pulp at the mill.
Domtar will launch a manufacturing facility for new grades of northern bleached softwood kraft pulp.
The pulp can be used to produce writing and specialty grade papers, tissues and paper towels as well as play a role in value-added markets such as cement and fibreglass.
Rickford says the money will help the company become more economically competitive and environmentally sustainable.
He adds it will ensure new products are generated and produced right here at home.
This will be the first time that cost-effective, high-performance blends of modified fibre will be commercially produced. (Photo by: Rayson Martyn)
