Domtar Shutdown in Dryden

A major blow to the City of Dryden.
Domtar has announced the permanent shutdown of the paper machine and converting operations at the Dryden Mill.
The move is effective mid-November and impacts 195-workers.
Company Spokesperson Bonnie Skene says the move is driven by weak demand for fine paper across North America.
Skene says they regret the decision and the timing, noting its a significant change for workers and the community.
She adds they will work with both levels of Government and Unions on initiatives for people directly effected.
Dryden’s pulp production and related forestland activities will remain in operation.
As for the future of the pulp operation, Skene says they can’t speculate on the future of pulp markets.
She notes Domtar will work hard to transition the operation to a market pulp facility efficiently and effectively during difficult times.
Skene says the pulp operation employees 330-workers, with another 450-forestland and contract jobs still in tact.
