Dorothy Edna Rutter
April 26, 1917 – October 13, 2011
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Dorothy Edna Rutter, October 13, 2011. Mom was born April 26, 1917 in Saskatoon but moved to Dryden as a young girl. She grew up north of Dryden, attended Rice Lake School and graduated from Dryden High School. She worked at the Dryden Mill until her marriage to Bill Rutter. She raised 8 children of her own but looked after other kids in her home and babysat at the bowling lane. Her love of animals brought her to the Humane Society as an active member for many years. She was also a member of the Aids Society where she joined in on many walks, but was best known as a “paper boy”, delivering the Free Press for more than 35 years. You would see her out every day on her bike or pulling a cart or sled with her dog, Chimo (an honorary paper carrier), taking great pride in giving personalized service to all her customers. She delivered the newspaper until her mid 80’s.
She is survived by her daughters Rinda Fransbergen (Kees – deceased), Maureen Ernesti (Kevin), Betty May, and Margaret Defranceschi (Dino), her sons Bryan (Debbi), Randal (Darlene), and Bradley, 19 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Bill in 1982 and her son Wayne in June, 2011.
A celebration of Edna’s life will be held at a later date.
If friends desire donations may be made to the Humane Society through the Stevens Funeral Homes P.O. Box 412, Dryden ON, P8N 2Z1. Condolences may be emailed to sympathycard@shaw.ca subject: Rutter.
