Drive to Work Caravan Stops in Dryden

Using the idled Dryden Mill as a back drop, the Ontario Federation of Labour demanded immediate help for the forest industry Monday afternoon.
The Drive to Work caravan stopped in Dryden as part of a 60-community tour to find out how the recession is affecting Ontario residents.
Ontario Elementary Catholic Teachers Association Spokesperson Dan Maltais spoke at the event stating Mill workers have been left out in the cold by both levels of Government.
He stressed that it’s time for the people of Northwestern Ontario to stand up and say “enough is enough”.
He says greedy shareholders have “squeezed and squeezed” every lousy cent they could and kicking workers out.
Maltais stressed that market conditions shouldn’t determine the lives of hard working individuals.
OFL President Wayne Samuelson called on both levels of Government to protect pensions and severance packages.
Thunder Bay-Rainy River MP John Rafferty stated the Conservative Government has abandoned small communities and the forest sector.
The NDP member familes and children are suffering and notes the Harper-Rickford partnership believes they have done enough for forestry.
The Caravan will arrive at Queen’s Park on June 25th and OFL President Wayne Samuelson has demanded a meeting with Premier McGuinty.
The Van will be in Atikokan Tuesday morning at 11:30.
