Drive Underway For New Track At DHS

The push is on to install a wheelchair accessible 4 lane, rubber surface track at Dryden High School.
Track coach Mike Wood is leading the charge and has launched a major fundraising drive.
Wood says some upgrades to the Harry McMaster track have already been made, but stresses a lot more work is needed.
He says the biggest issue right now is a severe drainage problem.
Wood says the project involves ripping the track up, fixing the drainage problem, re-gravelling, paving and putting in the rubber surface.
He notes the new and improved track would last for at least 20-years.
Wood says the total cost of the project is roughly $300,000 and he’s reaching out for community support.
Anyone who donates time, material or money can get a chartiable receipt.
Wood is also after federal and provincial grants.
The track and field program received new life in 2009.
The program has now grown to over 54-athletes from grades 7 to 12, with several athletes going to major championships.
To donate, help or for more information call mike at 221-8868 or e-mail drydenathletics@live.com or visit the High School.
