The Dryden and Ear Falls Mills will be under the control of Domtar
under a $3.3-billion merger with Weyerhaeuser’s fine paper business.
Weyerhaeuser Spokesperson Sarah Goodman says the deal is expected to take at least 6-months to be
finalized, so the future of operations in Dryden and Ear Falls is unclear.
However, the merger will create the second largest manufacturer and
marketer of uncoated freesheet paper in the world and largest in North America.
The new Domtar expects to generate about $6.5-billion in sales.
The Head Office will be in Montreal, while the main headquarters will be in South Carolina.
Weyerhaeuser will maintain its Timberstrand Mill in Kenora.
Weyerhaeuser reported sales of $22.6-billion last year.
