Dryden Council appears to be entertaining a small tax increase of about
2% this year.
City Manager Arie Hoogenboom says the 2007 budget is nearly complete
and the final draft is expected to be released early next month.
Hoogenboom says a tax hike may be necessary to avoid cuts to programs and staff.
At this stage, $3-million would need to be cut from the budget to reach a zero percent tax
increase.
Council has told staff to trim the current $3.4-million capital
budget as it has traditionally been around $1.7-million.
The City has committed to spending $162,000 more on
economic development.
The budget also calls for no increase in waste, day care or Arena fees as well as a
5% increase in water and sewage charges.
