Dryden Council Looking At Implementing Code Of Conduct Policy

For the first time ever, Dryden Council may soon have set rules to abide by when it comes to accountability and transparency.

They are looking over a draft Code of Conduct policy.

Although municipal staff have been under a certain set of rules since 2004, Council hasn’t had anything on paper regarding accountability and transparency.

Clerk Debra Kincaid believes it’s important to have such a policy in place as it puts everything on the table.

Kincaid says the policy will ensure Council is open and up front with the community and staff.

It would also outline sanctions and penalties for not abiding by the rules.

Included in the plan is a recommendation to appoint an Integrity Commissioner to investigate complaints and make final recommendations to council.

Kincaid says the other option is allowing the Provincial Ombudsmen to follow up on complaints.

She notes Sioux Lookout and Kenora have never had an inquiry since going with an Integrity Commissioner.
