It appears Dryden Council won’t be looking at a by-election to fill the vacant Mayor’s position.
Councillors seemed to agree Wednesday night that a by-election isn’t the best option.
The projected cost of holding a by-election is $20,000.
That still leaves several options for consideration including appointing someone from Council, going back to the last election results, or appointing someone from the public.
Council will continue to discuss all ideas.
Staff have stressed that any decision made must ensure the incoming Mayor is qualified and willing to take on the position.
Clerk Debra Kincaid says the resignation of a Mayor is rare, so there’s not a lot examples to go by.
Deputy Mayor Martin MacKinnon will continue to fill the position on an interim position.
