Dryden Council has selected the lining of various sewer pipes as the
top priority for a 1-time Provincial infrastructure fund.
A $500,000 application will be submitted this week and if
the project is accepted a number of pipes will be sealed to reduce the
flow to the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Director of Public Works and Engineering Mike Fenton says by taking proactive measures now they may be able to secure funding for a new Treatment Plant down the road.
Other eligible projects for the funding program included the lighting of the Sandy Beach Ball Diamonds and Soccer Pitches as well as upgrades to Earl Avenue.
Councilors Dennis Wintle and Mel Fisher both noted that recreation
should be a higher priority leading up to 2010 but joined fellow members
in accepting the sewer lining project.
Mayor Anne Krassilowsky expressed her disappointment stating Federal
funding is available for sewer upgrades and notes the City must act quickly to
enhance recreation in the community.
