Dryden Council Plans to Fight Health Unit Levy

Dryden Council is urging the Northwestern Health Unit to reconsider an increase in the Municipal levy.
The Board of Health approved a 36% hike last month in order to properly fund its various programs.
Councilor Brian Collins sympathizes with the Board but says communities can no longer cough up that kind of money.
Collins is quick to point out that 3 Board members were not present when the levy was voted on.
Dryden will seek support at the this weekend’s Kenora District Municipal Association Conference set for Sioux Lookout.
Meantime, the Province is being asked to take complete responsibility and ensure every municipalities receives the same public health services.
A Dryden-led resolution will be presented in Sioux Lookout this weekend in response to the 36% levy.
Brian Collins says Ontario is the only Province that doesn’t completely fund public health services.
Collins adds communities such as Pickle Lake and Ignace pay the same fees as Dryden, but do not receive anywhere the same kind of services.
