Dryden Councilor Strongly Opposed To ELA Closure

One of the stronger proponents on Dryden Council of the Experimental Lakes area is speaking up once again about its planned closure.
Mel Fisher says the Federal Government doesn’t seem to understand that the facility is second to none and he calls the move shortsighted.
Fisher says the closure of the ELA will result in the loss of 40-to-50 years of crucial data.
Fisher says reseach at the facility resulted in the discovery of phosphate killing Lake Erie and has helped in other environmental advances.
He adds the Feds own rules require the area to be restored to it’s original condition and he says that will cost a fortune.
He says the area has been disturbed for over 40-years.
