All retirement homes and long term care facilities in the province will need to have new automatic sprinklers.
Speaking on the new fire safety rules, Dryden Fire Chief Ken Kurz says there’s still a lot to figure out.
He says the new rule applies to buildings that house people over the age of 65, and that there are a lot of those in Dryden.
Kurz says the fire service must now list buildings, conduct fire inspections and instruct staff.
While it’s going to be quite a bit of work for firefighters, Kurz says that it’s a good measure to have in order to prevent the further loss of life.
Over the past number of years, Kurz says the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs have been promoting these safety measures and others like it.
