Dryden Fire Inspection Plans Under The Microscope

One Councillor is expressing his extreme disappointment that planned fire inspections of Dryden businesses, hotels, schools and multi-residential homes haven’t been carried out.

Nick Beyak says they received comprehensive information more than a year ago and reasonable timelines were set.

He stresses those deadlines haven’t been met.

Beyak calls the inspections just a formality, noting they have had plenty of time to have them carried out.

He warns any further delay could impact individual insurance rates.

Acting Fire Chief Ryan Murrell is just getting settled into his new position and stresses he will have a concrete inspection plan in place by November.

Murrell says he can’t say right now if they have the resources and the qualified staff to carry out inspections right away.

He notes he will be transparent with Council and keep them up-to-date on new developments.

Murrell adds he will be working with the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office about needed priority and mandatory inspections.

Beyak says he has full confidence in Murrell to have the inspections completed in a timely manner.
