Dryden Fire Service Agrees To Help KDSB In Emergency Situations

Some relief for the Kenora District Services Board in terms of providing land ambulance emergency care.

As the KDSB continues to lobby the province to overhaul the entire land ambulance system, the Dryden Fire Service has agreed to help out as first responders during serious medical calls.

Fire Chief Ken Kurz doesn’t believe the formal agreement will impact their day-to-day operations.

Kurz says they are equipped to start delivering basic First Aid, CPR and defibrillation until paramedics arrive.

There continues to be challenges on who will respond to a serious medical call when the KDSB is experiencing larger call volumes.

The Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care suggested the KDSB partner with the fire service as an available resource in medical emergencies.

Kurz notes local paramedics cover an area from Machin to the Dinorwic area.
