Starting Monday, the Dryden Fire Service will be going door-to-door checking for working smoke alarms.
Every home in Ontario is required to have a working smoke alarm on every storey as well as outside all sleeping areas.
Fire Chief Ryan Murrell says they will be asking homeowners to test their alarms to ensure the batteries are fresh.
Murrell says they will also be leaving behind some fire prevention information.
He stresses it’s proven that early warning results in the saving of lives.
Murrell adds this is a prevention initiative and they won’t be handing out fines during these visits if you do not have a working alarm.
