With our first snowfall, this is now the perfect time to check your fireplaces, furnaces, chimneys, vents and space heaters.
The Dryden Fire Service says all fuel-burning appliances should be inspected by a registered fuel contractor.
Space heaters should be kept at least one metre away from anything that can burn, including curtains, upholstery and clothing.
CO and smoke alarms must be installed in every room.
Vehicles shouldn’t be left running inside a garage and all chimneys and vents should be clear of debris.
Officials are also asking the public to replace worn or damaged electrical wires and connections.
There’s an increased fire hazard when the temperature starts falling and the snow hits the ground.
