There is growing concern about an increased use of pellet guns and air guns.
The biggest problem right now is in Kenora, where Provincial Police have had to deal with a rash of reports and false alarms.
On a couple of occasions, schools had to be locked down due to safety concerns, after someone was spotted with what was believed to be a gun.
Police ask the public to use common sense, stressing dealing with firearm reports creates significant fear and trauma for everyone involved and takes up valuable police resources.
OPP say pellet guns, air guns and soft guns are legal, however there are several Criminal Code charges that people can face if used improperly.
Police stress anyone using any firearm, even it it’s not “real, face the same charges as someone using a real gun.
