The Dryden GM Ice Dogs are launching a new camp aimed at young Indigenous hockey players.
The reigning two time SIJHL champions are hosting a Northern Legacy Summer Training Camp at the Lac Seul Arena.
The camp is in partnership with the First Nation community.
Executive member Derek Ouellette says there will a session for kids aged 8 to 13 on Tuesday, August 21st and another for players aged 14 to 20 on Thursday, August 23rd.
Ouellette says they will be teaching kids what its going to take to make the next level.
For those aged 16-20, Ouellette says it will be a chance to earn a spot at the Ice Dogs Main Training Camp.
Some members of the Ice Dogs as well as Coach Kurt Walsten will be in attendance at the skills development camp.
Ouellette says for the junior hockey team it’s a chance to reach out and give young aboriginal hockey players a chance to become a star.
He says hockey is massive and we are a country of hockey players.
Ouellette stresses “let’s open it up, see what we got out there, give these kids an idea, a hope and a dream.”
