Treaties Recognition Week is coming to an end as teachings continue at schools across the district.
Elder Robert Greene made a presentation at Dryden High School Thursday to educate students on our region’s history and treaties.
Greene says when people understand an issue, it is easier to have a meaningful conversation surrounding it.
He notes when you don’t understand something, at times it can lead to anger, racism, hatred and prejudice.
Greene hopes the students learn from the history of treaties and cooperate to make the future better.
He stresses young people are “the next generation that’s going to create a better world for us and create industries that will create wealth and jobs in our territory”.
Greene says the ultimate goal of this initiative is working towards the idea of “brotherhood, sisterhood and getting along with everyone.”
