Dryden Hospital Humble Following Story Of Giving

Officials at the Dryden Regional Health Centre say they are humbled to receive a generous gift from a lifelong resident of Kenora.

The hospital, along with the Lake of Woods Regional Community Foundation and Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Kenora have received their first installment of $175,000 each.

The money comes from a bequest from Laurie (Lawrence) Bednarchuk, who made the arrangement before he died last November, to financially support the three community charities.

The total bequest is estimated at $350,000 per charity.

Dryden Hospital Fundraising and Recruitment Manager Chuck Schmitt says over 25-years ago, Bednarchuk visited them to be treated for an eye injury and he credited nurses and physicians with saving his vision.

Schmitt says “Laurie always remembered this and his gift to community health care in Dryden is something we will not forget. It’s an incredible story of giving from a man of few words; we are so grateful”.

Bednarchuk was a successful tradesman and often made the trip to Dryden to meet with his best friend Charlie Bedford.
