Dryden Looking At Developing Long-Term Master Plan

The City of Dryden has applied for funding to develop a Master Plan that will shape the future of the community.

Mayor Greg Wilson says they are taking four projects and combining them into one.

The initiative involves four projects; a five-year Community Strategic Plan, a Branding Strategy, a Community Improvement Plan, and Economic Development Training.

The economic training strategy is a combined effort with Machin and Ignace.

Wilson says the entire plan will shape the framework for the direction of the community and the Cities role within it.

He notes “the Branding Strategy is something that describes and defines who we are and why we exist.”,

This process started in 2016 with the early development of a strategic plan but that worked stalled to allow staff to concentrate on the financial recovery of the municipality.

Wilson says Council and staff can build on some of the early findings in that strategy.

Dryden has applied for government grants to complete the work.

Staff are hoping to secure some $170,000 to complete the Master Plan, with the municipal share coming in at just over $16,000.

Wilson hopes to see the development of the strategy start early in the New Year.

Wilson says the process will include engagement with First Nations, Urban Indigenous groups, focus group sessions, an open house and a community report card.
